A Private Residence on Providence's East Side
Double Parlor Living Room
Project Completed: 03/06

My clients' came to me wanting a new look for their Double Parlor Living Room. It had previously been painted a saturated red and filled with deep jewel tones of burgundy, gold, blue and green. The room had great bones; however, it felt heavy and my clients were ready for a lighter space. Custom DeGournay wallpaper (Hand painted on Linen and Silk) was the inspiration for my client's Double Parlor Living Room. Soft shades of pink, blue, lavender, ochre, burnt orange and various greens and browns make up the color palette of the intricately painted paper. A tea stain finish was applied to the paper to give it an antique look. This paper really set the tone for the room and added dimension that was lacking before.

Rich fabrics in various colors and textures were hand selected for the rooms. My clients had beautiful antique furniture, rugs and artwork to work from and add to. An Heirloom Antique Needlepoint was used to reupholster the piano bench. Several pairs of 300 year old French Arm Chairs retaining their original upholstery in green, golden yellow and tan were scattered throughout the rooms. New upholstered pieces were added to the two rooms with the intent of making one room more masculine and the other more feminine. My client, not afraid to take a risk, loved the Clarence House fabric I proposed for a pair of antique tufted back chairs (previously upholstered in a medium blue damask). This fabric in bold tones of burnt orange, pale pink and emerald green transformed the look of the chairs and updated their look immediately.

Custom Pillows were designed for each sofa. On the more feminine side, we used a Clarence House Chinoiserie fabric, reminiscent of a watercolor, mixed with several Pale Blue Cashmere and Silk blend pillows. On the more masculine side, we used richer tones of cognac, emerald green and rust. A rich velvet paisley was selected for the homeowner's club chair and offset by warm shades of mahogany found in surrounding antique tables. A collection of antique ink wells were displayed throughout. An absolutely amazing emerald green fabric from Quadrille was selected for the window treatments. Not only did the window treatments brighten the space, but they balanced the weight of the heavy moldings and tall ceilings. We waited over nine months for the Scalamandre trim on the window treatments and just as we were about to reselect, it came in. My clients agreed, it was well worth the wait.
