When asked to design the interior of Bob & Nancy Jenkins' new residence in Bristol, RI, I was honored. Bob and Nancy, parents of Jeff Jenkins, and previous owners of Leonards have lived an exciting life and acquired many fabulous antiques throughout their journey. Last year, the couple sold their home in Westport, MA and relocated to condominiums in Bristol, RI and Naples, Florida.

Bob and Nancy left for Florida and my work began. In just a few short months, they would return to their new home. Knowing how stressful this lifestyle change could be, I was determined to create a familiar space for the Jenkins by showcasing their collections and making their transition as smooth as possible. With very few guidelines and the trust of my clients, I began the design process.

It was very important to me to make the Jenkins feel like they had lived here all their lives. To do this, I tried to incorporate as much as possible from the former home and reinterpret it for the new residence. Throughout the home, no detail is spared. Suddenly, items that had been packed away were displayed in groupings and photos that had been kept in albums were framed and enjoyed.

The Living & Dining Areas share the same room. The floorplan allows easy flow to and from adjacent rooms and maximizes the water view from all vantage points. Bob and Nancy's existing Sofa, Loveseat & Window Treatments from the Westport home were originally in the same floral fabric. I reupholstered the sofa and loveseat, while the window treatments were completely re-made to give new life to an old style.

The new window treatment was constructed with a boxed cornice and softly shaped valance. A contrast silk plaid lining and decorative cording enhance the treatment.

In The Kitchen, I worked from Nancy's Blue & White Antique Porcelain and added in shades of beige, cocoa, spruce and rust. A custom designed island in maple replaced the existing conventional version. For a added touch of whimsy, several Antique Toys from Bob's extensive collection line the tops of the cabinets.

Even Herbie, the couples' beloved four legged friend, has a special area to dine.

Sometimes the smallest space can be the most interesting. The Powder Room had the typical "condo" look-white, outdated and lacking in character. I decided to transform this room into a cozy place where treasured family photos and antique collections could be displayed and enjoyed. A fabulous antique mahogany cabinet with glass door replaced its laminated particle board predecessor. The medicine cabinet was taken out and updated with an antique birds eye maple mirror. The walls were covered in a new wallpaper depicting a scroll-like leaf pattern with birds, squirrels and acorns. An antique chandelier and custom shower curtain carry the theme throughout. This space, although the smallest in the residence, had quite an impact on Bob and Nancy. You literally walk into the room and are enveloped by warmth, while being surrounded by photos of loved ones and fond memories.

My inspiration for the Master Bedroom was a pair of beautiful antique floral swirl glass lamps. Layer upon layer of floral chintz & delicate trims were used in intricately designed window & bed treatments, creating an extremely romantic "English" retreat. The reupholstered headboard and densely ruffled quarter canopy add an element of grandeur to the room. In the corner, a comfortable chair and ottoman upholstered in a soft yellow chenille damask suggests the perfect spot for reading. Fine mahogany antiques offset the frills of the room and contrast nicely against the light blue walls, creating a perfect balance between masculine and feminine.
